As a social scientist of religion and violence who teaches about National Socialism as an example of progressive revolutionary millennialism, I noticed that as early as the 1934 Nuremberg congress of the Nazi Party and in Leni Riefenstahl’s film about it, Triumph of the Will, Hitler portrays/ stages himself and Riefenstahl displays him in her film as a religious leader and avatar (god descending from heaven to earth to save mankind). 

This is 'messiah/saviour' behaviour expressed in symbolic expression 

 The UK Daily Mail recently reported about how Hitler's messiah complex grew as defeat loomed:

A secret intelligence report that has lain unread since World War Two tells how Hitler showed signs of a 'messiah complex' and grew more and more paranoid as defeat loomed.The document was drawn up for British secret services in April 1942, just a few months before the Nazis embarked on the Final Solution, and identifies how the leader increasingly turned to 'Jew-phobia'. 

Written just as the conflict was starting to turn against Hitler, it shows British analysts had noticed developing paranoia in his speechmaking and a preoccupation with what he called 'the Jewish poison'. 

The document was found among a collection of papers belonging to the family of Mark Abrams, a social scientist who worked with the BBC’s overseas propaganda analysis unit and the psychological warfare board during the war.

Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s chief propagandist, said in a broadcast on 19 April 1936, that "Germany has been transformed into a great house of the Lord where the Fuhrer as our mediator stands before the throne of God."

"Spiritual" sentiments of this kind were echoed time and again during Hitler’s glory years. Another powerful voice in the Nazi party, Dr. Robert Ley, proclaimed that "We believe on this earth in Adolf Hitler alone! We believe in National Socialism as the creed which is the sole source of grace!"

Where did such ridiculous rant come from? What strange brain concocted these weird myths about the paranoid dictator with the toothbrush mustache? 

Of course it was Hitler himself who ordered that he be presented as a deified messiah. 

Before coming to power in January of 1933, Hitler wrote about his reaction to Berlin on his first visit there: "The luxury, the perversion, the iniquity, the wanton display, and the Jewish materialism [of Berlin’s commercial district] disgusted me so thoroughly that I was almost beside myself," Hitler recalled. "I nearly imagined myself to be Jesus Christ when he came to his Father’s temple and found it full of money-changers. I can well imagine how he felt when he seized a whip and scourged them out." 

When Hitler compared himself to Jesus, he was proclaiming his own divinity. Knowing as we do that Hitler’s ambitions were eventually blown to smithereens, it’s hard for us to realize how many Germans considered him a supernatural being. 

But it is true. Millions of German households actually erected shrines that featured a photograph of what they thought of as their dictator’s divine countenance. They said prayers in his behalf — even directed prayers to him — throughout the day. 

In the eyes of his people, Hitler had rescued them from the humiliations of their defeat in World War I. Better still, he was going to lead all Germans into a future of unrivaled glory. 

Freed at last from the dreadful fears that military and economic catastrophe had aroused in them, Germans envisioned Hitler as a truly magical figure of majestic wisdom and power. They saw him as an irresistible force, and they surrendered their whole hearts to him. He hypnotized Germans into worshipping him, successfully presenting himself as a savior and even as God himself.

Adolf Hitler's heroic exploits during the First World War were an invention of the Nazi propaganda machine, new research has revealed.

The Nazi leader served as a messenger on the Western Front during the war and was awarded the Iron Cross for carrying messages.
He claimed in his autobiography, Mein Kampf, that he 'looked death in the eye' and risked his life 'probably every day' while he served as a messenger on the Western Front.

But a new book, Hitler's First War, by German historian Thomas Weber, reveals that Private Hitler was often stationed outside of the most dangerous areas and was rarely in the 'midst of the bombardment', as he claimed.

The book is not new, as this article claims. It was first published in November, 2010. Amazon describes the book.

Perhaps no individual in modern history has received more intensive study than Adolf Hitler. His many biographers have provided countless conflicting interpretations of his dark life, but virtually all agree on one thing: Hitler's formative experience was his service in World War I. Unfortunately, historians have found little to illuminate this critical period. Until now.

In Hitler's First War, award-winning author Thomas Weber delivers a master work of history--a major revision of our understanding of Hitler's life. Weber paints a group portrait of the List Regiment, Hitler's unit during World War I, to rewrite the story of his military service. Drawing on deep and imaginative research, Weber refutes the story crafted by Hitler himself, and so challenges the historical argument that the war led naturally to Nazism. Contrary to myth, the regiment consisted largely of conscripts, not enthusiastic volunteers. Hitler served with scores of Jews, including noted artist Albert Weisberger, who proved more heroic, and popular, than the future Fuehrer. Indeed, Weber finds that the men shunned Private Hitler as a "rear area pig," and that Hitler himself was still unsure of his political views when the war ended in 1918.

Through the stories of such comrades as a soldier-turned-concentration camp commandant, veterans who fell victim to the Holocaust, an officer who became Hitler's personal adjutant in the 1930s but then cooperated with British intelligence, and the veterans who simply went back to their Bavarian farms and never joined the Nazi ranks, Weber demonstrates how and why Hitler aggressively policed the myth of his wartime experience.

Underlying all Hitler studies is a seemingly unanswerable question: Was he simply a product of his times, or an anomaly beyond all calculation? Weber's groundbreaking work sheds light on this puzzle and offers a profound challenge to the idea that World War I served as the perfect crucible for Hitler's subsequent rise.

Weber is a member of the history department at the University of Aberdeen, where he teaches European and International history.

Christian Compromises To Atheism Continue

Letter: What is it about?  Naples Daily News — David Baldner asks significant questions about compromise. He emphasizes the fact that Adolf Hitler was not a Catholic, nor even a Christian of any sort. He was an atheist. Yet the churches of Germany compromised their convictions and beliefs in order to work with Hitler's regime. 

Previously Baldner wrote a letter, titled 'The face of atheism'. His conclusion:

It is not the Catholics, Protestants, Jews or Muslims that worry me; it is the new face of atheism, intent on controlling not only our education system, our media, our politics, but our families as well.

BUENOS AIRES (EFE news agency) -- Adolf Hitler lived in Patagonia after fleeing Germany in 1945, claims Argentinean journalist Abel Basti in a tour-guide style book which discloses the locations in the Andean foothills which served as a refuge for several former Nazi leaders. Hitler and his lover Eva Braun did not commit suicide--rather, they fled to Argentinean shores aboard a submarine and lived for many years in the vicinity of San Carlos de Bariloche, a tourist site and ski haven some 1350 km southwest of Buenos Aires, according to the journalist.

San Carlos de Bariloche, usually known as Bariloche, is a city in the province of Río Negro, Argentina, situated in the foothills of the Andes on the southern shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake and is surrounded by the Nahuel Huapi National Park. After an extensive public works and architectural buildup the city emerged in the 1930s and 1940s as a major tourism centre with ski, trekking and mountaineering facilities apart from numerous restaurants, cafés and chocolate shops. The city has a permanent population of 108,205 according to the 2010 census.

Under fire because of a new book that documents for the first time how Juan Peron clandestinely maneuvered to bring Nazi and other war criminals to Argentina after World War II, the Peronist government here is resisting calls to release long-secret official records about the collaboration. According to the Simon Wiesenthal Center here, both the Foreign Relations Ministry and the Interior Ministries have failed to respond to letters, sent to them shortly after the book was published here late last year, asking that the records be made public. In addition, seven members of Congress have now called for an investigation into how crucial immigration records were apparently destroyed six years ago in defiance of existing laws.

Nazis & Argentina: a History Lesson:

Any expat living in Buenos Aires will be aware of Argentina’s open door policy towards immigration. After all, lots of us just hop over to Uruguay every three months to perpetually renew our tourist visas. Technically it’s illegal to spend more than six months per year here on a tourist visa, but no-one seems to mind. In fact, Argentina has had an open door policy on immigration for the last 200 years, including a long period where immigration (specifically from European countries) was actively encouraged. And how’s this for a factoid: between 1821 and 1932, Argentina was #2 in the world in the number of immigrants that it admitted, a staggering 6,405,000 people. (Wondering which country was #1 in the world during this period? It was of course the United States of America, admitting approximately five times as many immigrants as Argentina!) . . .  

Investigators believe that following the war, a cabal of ex-Nazis and Nazi collaborators formed in Argentina and worked with the Perón government (he became president in 1946) to organize the emigration of hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of their kind to Argentina. Members of the group frequently travelled to Europe to look for and bring back more of the fugitives. 

It’s not known exactly how many ex-Nazis were brought to Argentina during the late 1940s and early 1950s. One researcher identified 300, but there easily could have been more. What is known is that they included Josef Mengele, Adolf Eichmann and his adjutant Franz Stangl, Erich Priebke (a former Captain in the Waffen SS), Klaus Barbie – also known as ‘the Butcher of Lyon’ (a former Captain in the SS and a member of the Gestapo), Ustasha Dinko Šakić (former commandant of the concentration camp that was nicknamed ‘the Auschwitz of the Balkans’) and many, many others. 

The ex-Nazis were given landing permits and visas and it has also been claimed that many of them were even given jobs in Perón’s government.

It could be possible, but then that means that everything else is possible, I'm just dissapointed that when history is taught to kids they are told that he committed suicide, that's not how history should be taught. Same goes for Osama bin Laden, no photo, no DNA evidence released, just the governments word, sorry no dice.

But contrary to what people would might believe, the FBI had an agreement with Hitler and the rest of the surviving Nazi-top. If Nazi Germany would hand over all its technologies, scientific discoveries and scientists from their A-bomb research to the US and NOT the russians, they would let them go free... And so they did!

Rochus Misch, 94, Hitler’s former radio operator and the last survivor of the Berlin bunker, says he saw the bodies of ‘the boss’ and Eva Braun with his own eyes.
He said: ‘I was in the room next door when he shot himself. I did not hear the shot but I saw his uncovered corpse when the door was opened.
'I saw Hitler slumped with his head on the table.
'I saw Eva Braun sitting dead in the corner of the sofa, her head turned to Hitler, her knees pulled up to her chest. She had a dark blue dress on and a white frill on her collar.’ 

Historians hold him up as a reliable source and he is the author of a book, published several years ago, called The Last Witness.

It's very UN-believable. Williams has been boo'd off a number of historical discussion forums when his advertising descended into him insulting other posters and their opinions rather than answering questions put to him. Being a journalist, he doesn't seem to accept that "we believe..." is not an acepted academic level of proof on something as big as this claim.
The book is full of padding, there's at least five chapters of general WWII history before the main subject matter appears!

Did Hitler Escape To His Antarctic Stronghold?

In the 1950s, rumors spread that Hitler had escaped to a secret Nazi base at the South Pole. In 1952, Dwight D. Eisenhower said: "We have been unable to unearth one bit of tangible evidence of Hitler's death. Many people believe that Hitler escaped from Berlin." When President Truman asked Joseph Stalin at the Potsdam conference in 1945 whether or not Hitler was dead, Stalin replied bluntly, 'No.' Stalin's top army officer, Marshall Gregory Zhukov, whose troops were the ones to occupy Berlin, flatly stated after a long thorough investigation in 1945: "We have found no corpse that could be Hitler's." The chief of the U.S. trial counsel at Nuremberg, Thomas J. Dodd, said: "No one can say he is dead."

According to these rumors there is a real continent, with plains, valleys, mountain peaks up to 15,000 feet. The temperature in the interior is around zero (?) in the summer, and never drops below 20 or 30 degrees below in the winter. In other words, it is not as cold as in parts of North Dakota or Canada." (especially underground, where the natural temperature would be in the 50's, even below snow and ice. - Branton) "Bonjour" magazine, the "Police Gazette," and the Paris newspaper "Le Monde" all had articles about Hitler's South Pole hideaway. Admiral Doenitz, in 1943, stated, "The German submarine fleet has even now established an earthly paradise, an impregnable fortress, for the Fuhrer, in whatever part of the world." Although he did not specify where the exact location was, "Bonjour" pointed out that in 1940 Nazi engineers had begun construction of buildings that were to withstand temperatures to 60 degrees below zero. There have been strong rumors, from the end of the War, that Hitler escaped to his South Pole fortress.

Nazi Germany began to explore the Antartic in 1938 (The German grasping at the Antarctic)

The "NEUSCHWABENLAND" left the port of Hamburg on December 17th 1938 heading to the Antarctic on a precisely planned and determined route and reached the ice on January 19th 1939 at 4° 15´ W and 69° 10´S. The following weeks on 15 flights the "PASSAT" and the "BOREAS" flew across some 600.000 square kilometers and made with their special designed German "Zeiss Reihenmessbildkameras RMK 38" more than 11,000 pictures of the area. The old Norwegian maps from 1931 of these area were renewed, for they proved to be fake. (It could not be different, because the earlier Norwegian expeditions did never go so deep into the ice from the Northern landing point they used).

Nearly one fifth of the whole Antarctic area was scanned in this way, thus documenting the area for the first time and simultaneously claiming it to be German territory. To stress this claim on the outside too, the two planes dropped several thousands of drop-flags and special metal poles with the expedition's insignia, the "swastika," on them. The whole territory received the still valid name: "NEUSCHWABENLAND", referring to a south German region.

Interestingly, the Expedition seemed to have discovered ice-free areas even with lakes and small signs of vegetation in the middle of the Antarctic. Their geologists said that this phenomenon was due to hot sources in the ground. Concurrently, the landings points were marked with "prick-flags".

Some claim that a secret war against the Nazis who escaped was carried on by the United States Navy, led by Admiral Byrd.  A film documenting the same is available through this linked website. This film, "The secret land, starring men and ships of the US Navy," is a documentary of that expedition. This very rare film from the US Navy details Admiral Byrd's failed attempt against the Nazi South Polar Base. After many difficulties, the expedition found the rumored place, a calm area with green trees, flowing lakes, and no snow. The temp is 38 degrees in the water. This goes against all theory!

Hitler Exhibition Raises Questions About Mass Enthusiasm

How could it be? How did it happen that Adolf Hitler was able to obtain such a hold on the German people? This new exhibition does not answer the question. It raises it and helps the German people to discuss it. The German Historical Museum suggests that Hitler mobilized the social fears and hopes of Germans in the 1930's and used them for the Nazi party's political purposes. Nazi rule was based as much upon mass enthusiasm and agreement as upon force, murder and physical destruction.

Anyone looking at the Nazi rise to power in the 1930's must raise similar questions about mass enthusiasm for any politician seeking power. Many here in the U.S. are asking such questions about President Barack Obama's rise to the American presidency. This is not to suggest, of course, that Pres. Obama is a Nazi or that he is to be compared to Hitler. It is rather to suggest that all of us must maintain our objectivity amidst the enthusiastic embrace of any politician by the masses, regardless of race or political party.

Where Is Bonhoeffer's Witness Today?

In his book about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Eric Metaxas writes that Bonhoeffer concluded it was "unequivocally the responsibility of the Christian church to help all Jews." Not only was this dramatic. It was revolutionary, because the Lutheran church in Nazi Germany had sold out to the philosophy that the Jews should be excluded from their fellowship because they were not of the Aryan race. At best, those Jews who were baptized Christians might have their own Jewish Christian church.

"Ignoring the protests of Bonhoeffer and other dissenting pastors, in 1933 the Lutheran Church had adopted a set of Aryan clauses. Non-Aryans and those married to non-Aryans were no longer to be ordained or offered positions in the church. 

Bonhoeffer immediately called for all dissenting pastors to resign and refused the parish that had been offered to him. He sent a statement to church leaders declaring that the Aryan clauses were in direct conflict with basic Christian doctrines. When he received no response, Bonhoeffer helped Martin Niemoller form the Pastors’ Emergency League, which eventually grew to 6,000 dissenting pastors and the Confessing church.

Bonhoeffer believed that at some point the church must act against the state to stop it from perpetrating evil like the state's antisemitism and the murder of the mentally and physically handicapped. "This action is permitted only when the church sees its very existence threatened by the state as defined by God. Bonhoeffer added that this condition exists if the state forces the exclusion of baptized Jews from our Christian congregations or in the prohibition of our mission to the Jews."

Such thinking ultimately led Bonhoeffer to participate in a modification of Hitler's Operation Valkyrie. This was the unsuccessful plot to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1943.

"At the end of 1943 the Schutzstaffel (SS) and the Gestapo managed to arrest several Germans involved in plotting to overthrow Adolf Hitler. This included Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Klaus Bonhoeffer, Josef Mueller and Hans Dohnanyi. Others under suspicion like Wilhelm Canaris and Hans Oster were dismissed from office in January, 1944.

"Major Claus von Stauffenberg now emerged as the leader of the group opposed to Nazi rule. In 1942, he had decided to kill Adolf Hitler. He was joined in the plot by Wilhelm Canaris, Carl Goerdeler, Julius Leber, Ulrich Hassell, Hans Oster, Peter von Wartenburg, Henning von Tresckow, Friedrich Olbricht, Werner von Haeften, Fabian Schlabrendorft, Ludwig Beck and Erwin von Witzleben."

Ultimately some 6,000 Germans were executed after the July plot. Bonhoeffer, then 39 years old, was among them. Because Bonhoeffer was considered a possible source of information, he was kept alive for some time after the attempt. Hitler only ordered his execution after defeat for Germany became inevitable. Bonhoeffer was hanged at the Flossenbürg Concentration Camp on April 9, 1945.

All this raises many questions for the modern church in a world still dominated by racial discrimination, violence, hatred, deception and killing. Thank God there are still those willing to join Bonhoeffer in publicly witnessing against such evils.

Hitler's Nostradamus

Erik Jan Hanussen, was known for a time as Hitler's Nostradamus and as the Prophet of the Third Reich. He was born Herschmann Chaim Steinschneider on June 2, 1889 in a Viennese jail cell to a Jewish father who was an actor and caretaker of a synagogue. Hanussen quit school to join the circus. In the circus he developed his showman skills as a knife thrower, fire eater and strong man. 

As a soldier in World War I Hanussen first began to demonstrate his psychic abilities. At one point, his company was cut off from its supply of water, and the troops were becoming desperate. Hanussen, without the use of a divining rod or any other apparatus, successfully dowsed water for his comrades. His entertainment background and charismatic personality eventually got him a transfer to perform for the troops.

When the war was over, Hanussen further developed his stage act as a clairvoyant and mentalist, performing at music halls across Germany and surrounding countries. During one of his shows he revealed unknown details about a local murderer. This feat brought him much public attention. Many suspect now that Hanussen had a confederate at the newspaper or the police department that fed him the information.

In the early 1930s Hanussen founded a tabloid empire that blended occult belief with radical politics. German Communist journalists revealed the clairvoyant's Jewish origins. Since he was not a pure Aryan, he was murdered in April, 1933 on the orders of Nazi Sturm Abteilung (SA) officers who owed him money. 1933 was the same year Hitler came to power.

Erik Jan Hanussen 

Berkeley professor Mel Gordon has written a fascinating account of Hanussen's activities, many names and many lovers, with excerpts from Hanussen's writings. His book, Erik Jan Hanussen: Hitler's Jewish Clairvoyant was published 2001.

Invincible is a 2001 film, based on the true story of Zishe Breitbart, a Jewish blacksmith's son from Poland who becomes a sensation in Weimar, Berlin as a mythical strongman. His employer, Hanussen, dreams of establishing an all-powerful Ministry of the Occult in Hitler's government. Yet as Hitler's hold on power grows more sure, and Berlin erupts in a ferment of anti-Semitism, Zishe must decide how he will use his strength. Plagued by nightmares, he takes counsel from a local rabbi. He becomes convinced that he has been chosen by God to warn his people of the grave danger they face. The script was written by Sujit R. Varma.

Nazi attitudes toward the occult were mixed and varied. Many astrology conferences were held in Nazi Germany until 1934, when the Nazis officially banned fortune telling. This made the publication of any almanacs and astrological journals illegal. See Hitler's Germany and Astrology.
